How a Post-Work Walk Breaks My Brain Fog (and Why You Have the Time, Too)

Important takeaways from nature can be summed up in just a few powerful states of being: self-awareness, grounding, inner peace, wellness, and health.

There are times when we might not feel like we can squeeze in a quick walk or hike, yet you can certainly surprise yourself otherwise. Lately, I have been in a bit of a weekly funk. I get home from work feeling tired, drained, and completely overwhelmed by the thought that I don't have enough time to do what needs to be done.

But I’ve been pushing myself to change the pattern.

Instead of collapsing onto the couch, I’ve been forcing myself to head to my local rail trail to get at least a single mile walk in.

🥾 Pushing Past the "No Time" Trap

The funny thing about nature is how it tricks your momentum. Once my feet hit the dirt, a mile turns into two, and before I know it, I look down and find myself reaching 4 miles by the time I am done.

While walking, I experience an almost immediate shift:

● Mental Clarity: The heavy weight of the workday lifts.

● Breaking the Fog: The sluggish brain fog I felt beforehand completely evaporates.

● Renewed Focus: I end up becoming vastly more focused on my household tasks once I get back home.

● Better Rest: I go to bed knowing I did something active that actively supports my long-term health.

✍️ A Moment of Reflection

🌿 Why Nature?

Whether having a bad day,

feeling anxiety stricken,

wanting to be healthy,

or just simply needing a different

space to think...

Nature is what I need.

The simplicity of letting my mind clear

and take in the elements refreshes my soul.

Whether it's feeling rain drops,

hearing the sounds of a drumming woodpecker,

or seeing vast mountains in the distance...

Nature is what I need.

Breathe in fresh air,

exhale your worries,

take in the beauty around you…

Because—

Nature is what we need.

🌿 The Simple Power of Squeezing it In

So many positive factors can play into benefiting your well-being, just by simply getting out into nature. I love a good hike, and I wish I could be scaling mountains every single day. Yet, I find all these wonderful, life-changing benefits for myself when I simply squeeze in a localized walk on the days when I don't have time for a full-scale hike.

You don't need a massive mountain range to experience the mental healing of the outdoors. Sometimes, you just need a local path and the willingness to take the first step.
